Endings and Beginnings: The Year in Review

2012 was kind of a crazy year, now that I look back and take in everything that happened. For some reason, I feel like more than 365 days must have passed since last January… Anyway, here are some of the high points of my year:

2012 Highlights

Of course, not everything went according to plan, but that’s the way life goes. I think things went fairly well overall. And I couldn’t have done it without the support of my loyal readers! (Have I told you how awesome you are lately? :P)

Now a new year lies ahead, and it’s time to set some new goals. So what’s next?

Plans for 2013

Legends of Lasniniar:

I’m looking forward to releasing another issue each month, and revisiting characters like Iarion, Barlo, Narilga, Linwyn, Golaron, Numarin, Vlaz, Arinmalia, and others, as well as revealing a new character that will make their debut in the bonus 13th issue. (Available to subscribers.)

Fatal Empire:

This is a project I’ve started and stopped a few times now. It’s a first-person fantasy intrigue piece that takes place in the Dharakmeni Empire with lots of spies, assassins, and magic. The first-person part has been challenging for me, but I like pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I plan to release Broken Empire as a series of four novellas:

  • Keeper of Secrets
  • Keeper of Wisdom
  • Keeper of Knowledge
  • Keeper of Justice

Keeper of Secrets is just starting the revision process. I decided to split this project up to make it more manageable for me to write. I’ll post more details as I get closer to releasing it.

Wave Runners (The World of Lasniniar Book 3):

This will be a full novel piece that will pick up a little while after Bond Forger, and feature another adventure of Iarion and Barlo, which will take them to the wilderness of the west and the frigid north.

I was hoping to have this one ready to go sooner, but at the moment, most of it is still percolating in my brain. I will likely work on this project between parts of Broken Empire.

Kinslayer (The World of Lasniniar Book 0.5):

You may have noticed when I numbered the series, I jumped from Light Chasers (Book 0) to Legacy Hunter (Book 0.75). This was to leave room for this planned novel project, which will follow the rise of Saviadro after the elves arrive in Lasniniar.

I’m not sure whether I’ll be able to release this book in 2013, but I want to at least get it started.

Possible Bonus Projects (Time Permitting)

I also have some other pieces kicking around that I would like to release at some point. Some are finished and need some work, while others have been set aside for the moment. Here are the ones most likely to get worked on:

Kingdom of Strife:

This is my unfinished NaNoWriMo project from 2012. It’s about a group of unlikely companions who come together to stand against a tyrant. My tentative plan is that this will be the first novel of a 4-5 book series called Enemies of the Crown. We’ll see what happens.

The Marrowmead:

I’ve been sitting on this one for ages. It’s complete, but it needs a major tear-down and rewrite. (I wrote it before I hit my stride with Soul Seeker.) A boy named Jasper has his world turned upside down when he learns of a heritage he never knew he had that will allow him to control the destiny of the lands of Vine and Thorn.

The Dream Maker’s Daughter

I stalled on this one shortly before starting on Storm Rider. A girl wakes from a coma in a world she doesn’t recognize, her spirit bound by dark forces in a golem body that isn’t her own.

Whew! I guess we’ll see how much of that I’ll actually get done…

What were your highlights for 2012? What are your plans for 2013?

Yikes! That’s one busy year, Jacqui. I saw your e-mail. Two days off must seem like 10 days at a resort or something for you, huh? I kneel before you and hand you the title of hardest worker among us. :)
Wishing you the best as you recharge and begin plowing forward with all of those goals that you have set before you for 2013. Just don’t overdo it, okay? Don’t make me come over there!

LOL, I’ll do my best! (Although I’m sure there are many writers out there who work harder than I do… It’s funny. I didn’t really feel like I had done a whole lot last year until I put that list together.)

Don’t forget to take your own advice! 😉
